Back To Business In The Fall

Aug 26, 2022

If you haven’t updated your marketing plan in a while, now is the time to do so. For those interested in astrology you might know that it is Virgo season and can take that piece of information and roll with it. But for the rest of us, let’s just say that this time of year is all about being orderly and making lists. This is the time to look at, or create, marketing goals and begin making a list of how you can achieve these goals. What are the steps involved and what resources do you need to make it happen?

Re-Evaluating Your Marketing Plan

If your current marketing plan is like that dirty old backpack that came home in June and has been sitting unattended to, collecting dust and starting to smell a bit, then you might have some deep cleaning to do.

To re-evaluate your plan you will need to start with your vision. Is it still clear to you? If not, then make sure to clarify that first. Then be clear on your target customer. Who are your customers compared to who you thought your customers would be when you first started out. Now make a list of what must be done to get the word out about your product or service to those customers. Be sure to include the resources you will need to ensure your vision becomes a reality.

This is how you will begin to create a strategy that you can use going forward.

Planning for Holiday Marketing Campaigns

Virgo season is all about focus and practicality. But you don’t have to be into astrology to know that business ownership is also about focus and practicality. If you truly want to be prepared from a marketing standpoint, now is the time to take out that calendar and make some notes for the remainder of the year.

Look at the upcoming holidays, including the federal holidays and the fun social holidays, such as National Calzone Day on November 1st, mark your calendars, and plan to acknowledge all appropriate holidays. Once you’ve checked that off your list you can move on to the next phase in your planning.

Planning for Holiday Marketing

Now it is time to focus on how you will acknowledge these holidays, whether that means a simple social media post, a special that your restaurant is offering for that particular weekend, a discount you will offer, or some other creative idea your team has in mind. If you are offering a promotion you will want to include how you are informing your customers about the promotion, if it’s social media or an email newsletter, you’ll need to work backwards on that calendar and be sure to get in their inbox or newsfeed a few days ahead of the big holiday.

Fall is a time of change in the schedule. Everyone has their calendars out, and it’s practical to make a plan. Be sure to add any special events, fundraisers, partnerships, etc… that you have planned onto your calendar and you are well on your way to creating a marketing calendar that you can work off of and refer back to for the last third of the year.
